Wollongong Japanese Language Centre (WJLC) was established in 2013 in Mount Keira initially teaching children Japanese in a group environment. It was gradually extended to teaching the junior secondary students basic Japanese language and culture, and HSC Japanese Continuers and Extension students. In 2025, WJLC reopened its doors after refurnishing the rooms which were affected by storms in previous years. Starting from 2025, WJLC opened a monthly gathering for families with children to provide Japanese storytelling, sing Japanese songs, and play games. Japanese cultural events are organised several times a year to promote a greater appreciation of Japanese culture.
